So much of what you wrote fits our life it's sad and scary.

Take care of yourself.

RichRichard Hickeyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09117716659117684302noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1113305524165042046.post-8773069281144269302010-07-05T23:33:50.704-05:002010-07-05T23:33:50.704-05:00I remember feeling angry about how, the moment my ...I remember feeling angry about how, the moment my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer, her life as she knew it was over. Or so it seemed to me. As you say, from then on it was doctor appointments and surgery and medications, etc. It seemed to me ~ an outsider ~ that she was fine before the diagnosis and sick from that day forward. Of course, she wasn't really "fine" but she was able to carry on her normal life activities.

I think witnessing my mother's experience with terminal cancer made me determined that if I ever come face to face with it, I will refuse treatments other than palliative care. I think that I'd rather live fewer days but have them be 'normal' days than stretch out the end only to prolong my own suffering and that of my loved ones.

That being said: I also remember my mother saying the exact same thing when she nursed her sister through terminal cancer, many years ago. Yet, when the disease struck my Mother, fight she did! Surgery, numerous rounds of chemo and lastly radiation.

I guess that instinct for survival is perhaps stronger than I may realize...

How I wish that no one had to make such horrific choices.

Thank you, Eileen, for sharing your thoughts and feelings with us. I think that in many cases (certainly my own) it helps us to look more closely at our own lives and what is important to us.

You are a giver. A teacher. And you have touched the lives of many. Is there anything that any of us can do for YOU????

Sending you hugs and prayers...Nancy K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/06061265740359266798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1113305524165042046.post-79202771719996770212010-07-03T08:06:50.588-05:002010-07-03T08:06:50.588-05:00What an insightful, thoughtful answer. I have always said that I would chose 'normal' life because it is what I know and love-it is supposed to be cherished because it is my life.........

(I think this would be a great pamplet offered at the Doctor's office or hospital, you know!)Delighted Handshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01289187765260532813noreply@blogger.com
